Teeth age as we age (boooo), and just like our bodies we have to take care of our teeth. Flossing, brushing, and regular check-ups are key to oral health but another part of our overall health is confidence! Sometimes we need a little upgrade to make that smile shine bright and confidently. Teeth whitening is a non-invasive process and can be done in the office in about an hour or less. Sometimes it can take more than one appointment to get the desired results but the whole procedure is easy and quick so it won’t eat up too much of your life.

There are a few ways to get those teeth as white as you want them but with bleaching at your dentist’s office is the way to go if you want the job done right!

The appointment will consist of a consultation where you and your dentist can decide how much bleaching needs to be done. Brilliant white is often not a great choice as it looks unnatural and may blind anyone you come in to contact with (ok, maybe not but be careful).

The best part of doing it in-house is that it greatly speeds up the time to get your teeth to the colour you want. Combining bleach and laser light can get those pearly yellows to pearly whites in no time. The bleach the dentist uses is a concentrate and is more powerful than the at-home kits because, well, the dentist is a professional and you are not. The dentist may also give you a custom-fitted mouthguard that can be filled with a lower concentrate bleach for at-home use.If you think you want to give an over-the-counter kit a shot be aware that that the length of time you have to use it and the level of concentrate will vary as will its effectiveness depending on the colour of your current teeth. The colour of your teeth is really important because whitening doesn’t always work for every shade of teeth.

→ Yellowish teeth usually work well
→ Brownish teeth will work but not to the same degree as yellow
→ Greyish-hued teeth may not work as well at all.

If you have has extensive bonding or tooth-coloured fillings in your front teeth, bleaching will not work. If you do bleach them you can expect to have beautiful white teeth that make the discoloured ones stand out and that would look super weird

Suffice this to say, have a chat with us and see what route is best for your smile. We’re in the business of making sure you’re happy with your teeth and will keep your budget in mind. If we think you can get away with using an over-the-counter product, you can be sure our dentists will give you the best possible recommendation.
