Sealants

Dental sealants are used to help prevent cavities by applying a thin, plastic finish to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. We think sealants are a good idea for most of our younger and high-risk patients. For example, when sealants are applied as soon as a child’s long-term molars and pre-molars come in, it can protect the teeth before decay has any chance to do any damage.

Adults can get considerable benefits from sealants as well. Sealants can play a critical role in protecting adult teeth as long as the patient maintains a healthy oral healthcare routine. The level of success and durability depends on the commitment of the patient.

Sealants are extremely thin and are carefully applied to fill the grooves and pits of molars. Regardless of the colour—clear, white, or tinted—
sealants are usually not seen when you smile or talk. While dental sealants can last from 5 to 10 years, they must be examined by your dentist at regular intervals.
